Not only does this give the show or movie a little more life, but I think visiting filming locations enlivens the place more.
Especially if it is a historical place, you can really begin to understand how much drama these places must have seen over the centuries.
Visiting filming locations is one of our favorites, which is why we feel so lucky that many of these White Princess filming locations are so close to where we live here in Bristol.

Travel Through the Silver Curtain: The White Princess Top Attractions to Visit
If you’ve never heard it… The White Princess is a historical drama series that is the sequel to The White Queen (also worth watching!)
The White Princess is based on the book of the same name by Philippa Gregory and follows the marriage of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York.
Since the King of Lancastrian married a Princess of York, their marriage has de facto ended the Rose Wars – but that does not mean that their marriage and time on the throne are not yet filled with stories of betrayal, politics and seduction.
And here’s how you can walk in the footsteps of the crew and visit some beautiful White Princess shooting locations in England.
Great Chalfield Estate στο Wiltshire
Managed by the National Trust, the Great Chalfield Estate near Bradford-On-Avon in Wiltshire is immediately recognizable as the Woodville Estate, the home of the Elizabeth of York family in the opening scene of The White Princess and later in the series.
In the show, we see many of the beautiful gardens and the property of the mansion, from the picturesque church and the spiral river to the beautiful gardens and the courtyard.
Please note that the mansion is also a full-time residence, so the mansion and property are only open to the public on certain days and hours. See the official opening hours here.
She has also appeared in other popular productions such as the Great Chalfield Mansion, Poldark, Wolf Hall, The Other Boleyn Girl and ITV’s Persuasion.

Tip: While in the area, be sure to visit The Courts Garden. It’s another great location on the National Trust, less than a 10-minute drive from the Great Chalfield Estate.
Wells Cathedral in Somerset
Wells Cathedral in Somerset represents York in the television series The White Princess. You will often see the walls of the cathedral in the program.
While you’re here, make sure you see the moat at Bishop’s Palace – again at Wells. This moat replaced the River Thames in a row – especially when Lizzie left her mother in Westminster and took a boat ride along the river.
Wells Cathedral is open to the public all year round.

Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire
Berkeley’s historic castle in Gloucestershire, near the Cotswolds, represents the courtyard of Westminster. We see Elizabeth of York for the first time when she arrives in London.
Berkeley Castle, King II. Given that here Edward met his early end in real life, it is indeed very appropriate.
Have you ever had the feeling that history is repeating itself or that we are in a complete loop? Yes, I felt that feeling at that time too.
In any case, Berkeley Castle is privately owned but generally open to the public during the warmer months. With your ticket you can explore the interior of the house, the large areas and the gardens.
You may even be lucky enough to watch a free show in areas such as medieval swordsmanship!

Tenth Stall in Wiltshire
Tithe Barn, a 14th-century barn in Bradford-On-Avon, is an English heritage site and serves as the king’s throne room in the TV series White Princess.
Despite the imposing flags and Tudor banners you see on display, the archaic beams and unique barn architecture make no mistake.
Tithe Barn is free to visit and is open to the public most days.

Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire
The interesting gardens of Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire are also featured several times in The White Princess.
Elizabeth walking with her ladies, kneeling alone or conspiring with her family, these scenes were often filmed at Sudeley Castle.
Once again, this is also appropriate because King VIII. Henry’s sixth wife, Queen Katherine Parr, once lived here and is still buried there to this day. You will find his tomb in the church of the castle. Interestingly, Katherine Parr is the only British queen to be buried in private land.
Sudeley Castle is privately owned and is often described as a hidden gem of the Cotswolds. It is usually open to the public during the warmer months, when you are free to roam indoors and outdoors.

Lacock in Wiltshire
The historic village of Lacock in Wiltshire often appears in period dramas and movies, and White Princess is no different.
The original Tudor houses and stone buildings of the city function as the former London in TV series, so we often see the King and his men roaming the streets in coronations and royal weddings.
Church Street in Lacock was perhaps the most used shooting location, as you will find many neatly lined Tudor homes here — making it the perfect setting for the cast.
While you’re here, be sure to take a look at Lacock Abbey, which has appeared on many silver and large screens, especially some of the Harry Potter movies.
The monastery is managed by the National Trust and therefore offers free admission to NT members.

Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire
In turn, we often see the court walking or talking in the many corridors of the palace.
These are immediately recognizable as cathedral monasteries. In particular, the monasteries at Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire appear several times throughout the series.
The cathedral is open several times during the year.
While you’re at it, don’t forget to take a look at the 1215 Magna Carta. The document is the original and is one of the four surviving copies worldwide.

Caerphilly Castle in Wales
Caerphilly Castle in South Wales is almost immediately recognizable as the pier of London for the TV series. Dramatic scenes from the Tower of London were also filmed in the castle.
This historic castle dates back to 1200 and is known as the second largest castle in England – second only to Windsor.
Today, the castle is open to the public all year round and is worth a visit. Not only because of their connection to the White Princess, but also because of their own stories and backgrounds.

Gloucester Cathedral in Gloucestershire
The White Princess movie studio definitely used Gloucester Cathedral in a unique way in the TV series.
In the spooky cellars of the cathedral you will find the private apartments of Elizabeth Woodville and her family.
Gloucester Cathedral has also had its share of television and film screenings – perhaps most notably some of the Harry Potter films.

Arundel Castle in Sussex
The exterior of the beautiful Arundel Castle in Sussex served as Wingfield Castle, which we saw briefly in the first episode of the series.
The Earl of Warwick and his family lived here before being invited to London under the new King.
The castle is privately owned and is generally open to the public during the warmer months.
Even if you are not interested in finding shooting locations for The White Princess, you can not help but admire this castle both inside and out.

Arundel Cathedral in Sussex
The majestic Arundel Cathedral is built on a hill overlooking the ancient city of Arundel.
In White Princess, the cathedral and its surroundings are immediately recognized as Burgundy.
Believe it or not, the sun and the blue sky were not fake!
Emma Frost, the series’ writer, told Vanity Fair: “We were incredibly lucky to be back there. It was supposed to be a sunny spot away from the gray old Westminster. And the first day we got back there it was 90 degrees! “The clear blue sky, the green grass, the exploding garden colors, the fountain; it’s really like being somewhere else.”
Arundel Cathedral is open to the public on certain days and hours of the week, as well as for service.

Bonus: Cardiff Castle and Bristol Cathedral
If you’re looking for more White Princess shooting locations in the UK, you might want to add Cardiff Castle and Bristol Cathedral to your list of must-sees.
Although we can not fully confirm the scenes that were shot in these iconic locations, we know for sure that the buildings were used in some way in TV series.

Bonus: Seville in Spain
In turn, Elizabeth and King Henry VII visit Queen Isabella of Castile in Spain.
It seems that these scenes were indeed shot in Seville, Spain – at least according to this “stigmatized” photo on Facebook.
Some scenes were filmed at the Royal Alcazar in Seville, nothing in the series that confused Seville Cathedral.
Both the Alcázar Cathedral and the Seville Cathedral are open to the public, although we have not yet visited them. One more day, right ?!
Bonus: Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol
As an added bonus, we thought you might be interested to know that Westminster interior shots were shot right here at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol.
The producers of the production wanted to find shooting locations about an hour drive from the studio and for the most part they succeeded!
