Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited national park in the United States. In fact, the Grand Canyon receives more visitors each year than Yellowstone and Yosemite combined.

Must visit / must:

No Smoky Mountains experience would be complete without a visit to Cades Cove, which combines the Smoky Mountains’ favorite features on a scenic 11-mile route. Expect to see beautiful mountain views, wildlife and historic buildings.

In addition to Cades Bay, a route to Newfound Gap and the Clingmans Dome tops the list. Both the trip and the view to the top are worth it. Splashing is difficult in Porter’s Creek on summer days.

Best tips:

You will need your own car. Unlike some national parks that can be viewed using the park’s transportation system, the wide variety of activities combined with the wide geographical area means that you need your own vehicle to get the most out of the park.

2) We are now heading west to Redwood National Park in Northern California.

Redwood Coast is an underrated and hidden gem of Northern California: think of the serene shores, stunning scenery and most pristine ancient forest in the world.

The best place for a walk in the “Forest Bath” is Prairie Creek Redwood, the crown of the sequoia forest.

Best tips:

Take time to slow down. This place takes time for the human mind to absorb the wonders of this ancient forest.

3) Then head north to Utah Arches National Park.

Arches National Park is home to more than 2,000 natural sandstone arches with many rock tops, towers, balanced boulders and fins. It is so unique that it should be at the top of everyone’s list!

Must visit / must:

Walk the paths to see up close the arches and the rock formations.

While in the area, be sure to visit the Canyonlands National Park Island in the Sky: Perched at 1500 feet in the sky, this mesa has truly stunning views.

Best tips:

Head to the nearby Dead Horse Point State Park. It may not be known to most people, but it has long been a favorite local item due to its stunning views of the cliffs and gorges and intimate hiking trails. ( Stay in Moab: All three of these parks are within walking distance.)

4) Going North: Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

It is an amazing park with high mountain peaks, deep wildlife, plenty of wildlife and truly stunning views.

Must visit / must:

Drive the Trail Ridge Road, one of the highest paved roads in North America, and hike the Ute Trail for great views of the Continental Divide, the surrounding mountains, and the Great Plains.

Best tips:

For downhill mountain biking at music festivals, breweries, hiking and skiing, head west on I-70 towards Breckenridge and Vail.

Check out Nels Nelsen’s historic ski jump and enter the “Nels Knickers” to understand what ski jumping meant in the early 1900s.
